DVD ISO Files Converter-Crack/rip dvds into ISO image
The other day I received an email from a friend, in which he complained that he was losing DVD menus in iTunes after ripping a DVD following my advice. Now that he asked, I’d like to put up the question here: Is it possible to rip DVD to iTunes with menu retained?
To manipulate DVDs discs effectively, you need to understand a little about the file structure. In a VIDEO_TS directory (DVD structure) the main data files have a .vob extension, but there are various .ifo and .bup files as well.
Here’s a brief guide:
. BUP = Backup files of the IFO files.
. IFO = The IFO files includes information such as chapters, subtitle tracks and audio tracks.
. VOB = The VOB files contains the actual video, audio, subtitles and menus.
When playing with a DVD player, it is the "VTS_01_0.IFO" that tells the player how to proceed when using the on screen menu. When ripping a DVD to MP4/MOV/M4V/AVI format, the DVD Ripper must parse the IFO to ensure it encodes VOB files in correct order. But after encoding you surely lose IFO, which is not compatible container formats. A DVD file structure holds IFO while video container formats do not. But there are two ways to keep the IFO when ripping DVD:
1. Crack/Copy dvds to hard drive without changing anything. You’ll get a VIDEO_TS directory with everything retained. When playing the DVD movie from VIDEO_TS structure, you can use the menu as your media player support full DVD navigation.
2. Crack/rip dvds into ISO image. An ISO image can include all the data of files contained on the archived DVD. This is about the same with VIDEO_TS.
The problem is, neither VIDEO_TS nor ISO can be added to the iTunes Movies Library- iTunes does not support them. So there's no way to rip DVD to iTunes library and meanwhile keep menus. You can rip dvds to iTunes(with main movie) or rip a DVD with menu, but don't expect both.
Additional tips for your reference

QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.
Video podcasts.
iTunes Digital Copies.
iTunes Store Movie Rentals (Requires iTunes 9 or later).
2. Free media players that play VIDEO_TS/ISO: VLC media player, PLEX, XBMC, etc
