On one hand, if you forgot password of local administrator, then cracking its password is a piece of cake.( there is a default built-in administrator account with no password in Windows XP). In this situation, forgot xp password never bring trouble to you.
Built-in administrators can change the passwords of administrators, access to any local administrative account. It will yield an entry to the user account under control panel. Therefore,you will need to start the computer normally to see if your built-in admin account is unlocked . Then you will have one of two screens: The welcome screen, or the Windows Logon screen when it finishes loading.
If it is a welcome screen (Windows XP Home default) you will need to press CTRL ALT DEL simultaneously, and then again. The welcome screen should change to the advanced login screen, that you may already have if you have turned off the welcome screen. Next, for username type in Administrator, leave the password blank.
If you can get in with this account, click on start and click run. Type "Control UserPasswords2". From here, adjust the passwords of the target account on the computer as you like.
On the other hand, if you forgot password of default built-in administrator, it will be a little harder.
Use free windows password recovery software, such as Ophcrack. You can also choose commercial ones, for example, Windows Password Recovery Tool, to bypass windows XP password.
