Canadian Carol Huynh came up short in her attempt to win back-to-back Olympic wrestling gold medals, losing in the womens 48kg semi-finals. Elite Willis McGahee Jersey . After two dominant wins Wednesday afternoon, Huynh was beaten 2-0, 2-1 in her 48kg semi-final match against the top-ranked Hitomi Obara of Japan on Day 12 of the London 2012 Olympic Games. A late takedown for a point in the second round gave her hope of tying up the bout with Obara, but she could not manage to turn her opponent for a second point, dropping her into a bronze-medal match. Huynh, whose parents immigrated to the country in 1980 as refugees from Vietnam, became Canadas first woman to win a wrestling gold medal four years ago. Looking in fine form entering the match despite coming off injuries that forced her to pull out of a recent tournament in Waterloo, Ont., Huynh could not match the quickness of her Japanese opponent. Huynh surrendered an early takedown in each of the first two rounds and most of her attempts to drive at Obara were swatted away. The wrestler from Calgary tried to rally late in the second but ran out of time. After a dozen seconds of trying to wrestle the two-time defending world champion at 48kg while she lay on her stomach, the referee stood them back up with six seconds left and from there Obara fended her off. Earlier, Huynh wasted no time in starting the defence of her Beijing 2008 freestyle wrestling gold medal, pinning her first opponent Nguyen Thi Lua in 34 seconds. Huynh overwhelmed her Vietnamese adversary, getting a quick takedown for an early point and then moving to position to hold down Nguyen for the win. The Hazelton, B.C., native was challenged a little more in her second match against Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus, but still managed an impressive 6-0, 3-0 victory to move on to the semi-finals. It was a tight second contest for the first minute and a half, but the 31-year-old Huynh got a takedown in the last 30 seconds to score a point and then drove her legs to turn Kaladzinskaya and got a knee pry for two more points. She held the Belarusian on her front and took her back to score three more as the round ended. They were tied up again early in the second and the referee warned them about clashing heads. With 30 seconds left, Huynh executed a quick throw for a 3-0 lead and she kept her opponent tied up for another win. In the 63kg division, Montreals Martine Dugrenier lost another heartbreaker to the No. 1 Kaori Icho, who has won the last two Olympic gold medals. After a first round dominated by the Japanese wrestler, Dugrenier got a single leg takedown and forced Icho out of bounds for a point in the first minute of the second round. She held on until the final moments, when Icho finally took her down for a winning point. Canada challenged it, but a replay showed that she hit her side on the mat with two seconds left. A tied round goes to the wrestler who scored last, thus giving Icho the two-round victory. The last time the two wrestlers met was in the Beijing 2008 semi-finals, where Dugrenier was leading until Icho rallied late to win 2-1. The Japanese fighter went on to win in the final, while Dugrenier lost in the repechage and finished tied for 5th. The Laval, Que., native still had a chance at a bronze medal thanks to the fact that the top-ranked Icho went on to advance to the final. Dugreniers next match was in the repechage against Swedens Henna Johansson, who lost to Icho in the quarter-finals, with the winner facing Battsetseg Soronzonbold of Mongolia in a bronze-medal match. Dugrenier has won three world titles in the non-Olympic 67kg weight class. Demaryius Thomas Jersey . COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Five of Lance Armstrongs teammates have accepted six-month doping suspensions, reduced because they provided evidence that helped the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency make the case to strip Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles. George Hincapie, Tom Danielson, Levi Leipheimer, Christian Vande Velde and David Zabriskie all would have received at least two-year sanctions had they not helped USADA with its case.
