In recent weeks, I?ve heard that there are some twitter users whom, in an attempt to gain a substantial user base, have decided to give away products, such as a Microsoft Xbox, or an Apple iPhone. The legal question that this naturally raises is whether or not this type of practice can legally be considered a lottery under California state law.
